Our first charity collection began last December when we launched our online shop. In April, we reached our 1000€ target and made a donation to Wildwasser Berlin. And now, we’re working towards our second donation target — check out the progress bar at the top of the screen to see where we’re up to.

Transparent donations that make a real difference

As Maitea’s co-founders, we wanted to combine our background working in the charity sector with our passion for quality, ethical jewelry. We understand how crucial it is to vet charities and ensure your money is making a real difference. And thanks to our years spent fundraising, we know how much more meaningful it is to make a donation when you know exactly how it will help.

Wildwasser Berlin is a local charity that has been operating since 1983. They support women and girls who suffer from sexual and domestic violence, helping them escape dangerous living situations. Beyond offering safe housing options, they also provide emotional support such as counselling, self-help groups, educational programs, and workshops. Meanwhile, the community feeling in the Wildwasser house is strengthened by group activities and trips.

How our recent donation helped Wildwasser Berlin

Thanks to your purchases at Maitea, we were able to make a small but meaningful contribution of 1000€ to Wildwasser Berlin – and we’d love to share exactly what you helped make possible.

One part of our donation was spent on a cinema trip for the people living in safe housing. Wildwasser told us that, “For the girls, it was a joyful moment to laugh freely and forget everyday worries for a couple of hours.” Beyond being a fun experience, the cinema trip also helped build a sense of community and trust within the group, ensuring it will have a lasting positive impact on their stay at Wildwasser. The team told us it was a “real highlight” for the residential group.

The second part of our donation was spent on two birthday parties. For young people who live at Wildwasser, birthdays can be emotional days that bring up mixed feelings. Celebrating together can help make them feel seen and valued. “With cake, candles, and a bit of decoration, these became warm and meaningful moments of connection and belonging,” Wildwasser tells us.

The largest chunk of our donation went towards language mediation. Wildwasser is dedicated to supporting women and girls regardless of their nationality or ethnicity. This means offering translation services so that women and girls who speak little or no German have access to trauma-informed counselling and crisis support. Being able to express their emotions in their native language allows them to feel safe and respected while telling their story in their own words.

Coming together as an ethical jewelry community

The charity element of our business isn’t just a PR exercise, nor does it mean the ethical jewelry you buy from Maitea is more expensive. We simply take one euro of profit from each purchase and add it to our donation pot. Why? We want the Maitea community to come together to make a meaningful difference to the lives of young women and girls living in Berlin. And thanks to this update we’re sharing from Wildwasser, we know exactly how our community has helped.
